The First Doctor David’s Blog Contest: Win Some Socks

One of my jobs is to interview candidates for the residency program and for our fellowship program. Since this can be a nerve-wracking experience for the applicant, I try hard to make the experience as painless as possible. One of the ways I try to keep things light is to ask an offbeat question.

Frequently, that question is “If you could have dinner with any historical figure, who would it be, and why?” This past Tuesday, however, I decided to make it a bit sillier. I was interviewing a nice young woman who wants to train to become a pediatric hematologist/oncologist. I took advantage of this particular interest and asked this question: “If you could be any chemotherapy drug, what would you be and why?” She cracked up at the question but she ended up giving me a pretty good answer.

That experience prompted me to announce the very first Doctor David’s Blog Contest.

Answer either of my two silly interview questions:
1) If you could have dinner with any historical figure (living or dead), who would it be and why?
or
2) If you could be any chemotherapy drug, what would you be and why?

Send your answer to either question - along with your full name to DDBContest@gmail.com. The best answer, as determined by my crack panel of judges (ie., by me), gets a prize.

What’s the prize, you ask? Well, simply the coolest pair of socks the world has ever seen!

Contest ends at 11pm, EST on Friday, April 11th, 2008. One entry per person, please.

Contest sponsored by Dr. Smak.

Good luck!

Hi Joy,

You are not alone in your admiration of Dr. Carson. When I was a resident, we used to help take care of his youngest patients, and I can't tell you how many would bring copies of his autobiographies to try to get his autograph. AND... he signed each and every one of them, always with a smile, and never complaining.
