We Have a Winner!

Thank you to each and every one of you who entered the first ever Doctor David’s Blog Contest and made it a big success. There were many excellent entries, and the decision was very difficult.

The first runner up, whose entry was truly hysterical (but not reprintable here), was Leigh M. But the winning entry was from Jaime H, from North Carolina. Here is her response:

"If I could be a chemotherapy drug, which one would I be? After a brief period of consideration, I decided on Gleevec (imatinib). I chose this because it targets a specific thing and goes and kills it - it has a job to do, and concentrates on that task. It also seems to cause less severe side effects as "regular" chemo, like hair loss, nausea/vomiting, mucositis, infertility, etc - although there are some serious side effects. If I were a drug I would want to cause the least harm possible while still kicking cancer's butt. I also wouldn't want to take up too much of the person's time, which is also why I chose Gleevec - a pill once or twice a day, you're done - no hours of infusion or painful needle sticks. You can fight cancer on-the-go, at work, at home - any time! It seems like Gleevec would let the person return to a fairly "normal" life, instead of spending hours in a hospital for treatment....and that's what I would want to do for that patient - help them live their lives."

Jaime, your socks are on the way. Wear them in good health!

Jamie, very nice response--"it has a job to do and does it". Very nice. You deserve to win. Like Dr David, I hope you wear them in good health.

Those are the worst socks ever - wear them with pride, you earned them.

As a former Oncology nurse, I share your priorities.
