What an Image!

One of the highlights of every weekend is being able to read the new secrets on PostSecret. If you haven’t seen this site, I highly recommend it. People send in anonymous postcards, often hand-made or otherwise personalized, containing a secret about themselves. They are sometimes funny, sometimes, sad, often incredibly powerful. This past Sunday, someone sent in this one:

I love it because it completely captures the spirit of NOT allowing a serious illness, like cancer, to control the patient’s life. I hope it helps us all to remember that people with an illness are just that – PEOPLE. We are not defined by our illness. We are defined by who we are.

How is your research coming along? I am writing a final paper on cancer research funding. Having sarcoma myself..I only really know the downside of my own disease, and the many unknowns!! I'm currently waiting on a possible new therapy they may use on me this summer. I had radiation and surgery for my main tumor, and I am only a year out. But I have slow growing lung mets. So I wait! Just curious how things in the lab are going =)

Thank you all for the nice words. Lindsay, thanks for your interest in the lab. We make slow steady progress all the time, which is a nice feeling. One project I'm very excited about is working with Dr. Toretsky from Georgetown University to try to develop new drugs targeting Ewing's sarcoma cells. I think once we start to make real progress, I'll blog about it. Hang in there!

That's great I look forward to reading. I'm really interested in research. Oh I hang in there! Thankfully I'm symptom free, except for some nerve pain from surgery. Neurontin does wonders though. Happy Researching!

I agree with you, it is a very nice way to say and convince yourself not to be defeated by any disease. It's something scientifically proved that your mental state is so important at the time o facing a disease, such as cancer, for instance.
